Given that my productivity, writing quality and patience have fallen away, and that it’s just a few weeks until we’re off, I’ve come to the fairly delightful conclusion that the best course is to stop writing for a while and focus on preparation for our departure, plus a certain amount of chilling out!

Along with the decision, I realised that going part time will make this final ‘thesis polishing’ stage so much more bearable, particularly given that I have a fairly automated income which I can shore up as I go. There’s nothing like being able to work when you choose, and when you’re in a productive state, instead of trying to force it for eight hours a day – working smart, not hard (4 Hour Work Week has been putting radical thoughts in my head).

So, given that decision, and that this is Katherine’s final day, we’re just eight-or-so hours away from freedom! Wow.

  1. Ah, the prospect of automated income, congrats on building up some! Have fun in your travels, I’ve been considering grabbing my wife and son for a little on-the-road work-traveling excursion in the near future. Maybe to Australia…

Good work again on Loopy, been hashing through my work day to get back to playing with it. :)

  2. I’m quite curious about this “automated income”, I could use a bit myself. :) What’s the source if you don’t mind sharing, is it the Loopy sales? Or the photography perhaps? I’ve been hoping to patch together some type of steady cash flow, please do share. :)

Hi Terry! Right the first time – Loopy sales. That said, it’s not a huge amount yet (down to just $600 or so per month currently) but that will pick up once I’ve put a little effort in.

  4. So now all have to do is become a computer programming wizard, invent a totally brilliant app for the iPhone and I’m on my way! Right, I was SO hoping you were making income off of the photography! I’m getting a bit long in the tooth to change careers! LOL!!
